💣 Hot potato, but explosive

Don't be holding it when it goes off

Short answer
Bomb Pass is a turn-based nerve game. On your turn you hold the bomb and must pass it. Every pass raises the chance it detonates — starting at 8% and climbing by 7 percentage points each time, up to a maximum of 85%. Whoever is holding it when it blows loses.

How to play Bomb Pass with a friend

  1. Start the roundThe bomb starts with one player. Rounds are short — most last under a minute.
  2. Pass on your turnHolding the bomb is your turn, and passing is your only move. You can't stall it.
  3. Watch the danger climbEach pass makes the next detonation more likely. The bomb gets angrier the longer the round runs.
  4. Survive the blastWhen it detonates, whoever was holding it loses and the other player takes the duel.

The actual numbers, because they're the whole game

The detonation chance isn't vibes. On the first pass it's 8%. Every pass after that adds 7 percentage points, and it stops climbing at 85%.

So the sequence runs 8%, 15%, 22%, 29%, 36%, 43%, 50%, 57%, and so on. By the eighth pass it's a coin flip, and by the twelfth it's close to a certainty.

The interesting consequence: passing gets more dangerous for the person who receives it, but you're the one who has to survive your own pass. Once the chance is past 50%, every remaining pass is more likely to kill the passer than not — and there's no way to opt out, because passing is the only legal move.

There is no way to play this well, and that's the point

Passing is your only move, and the roll is resolved on the server with randomness neither client controls. You cannot influence the outcome, time it, or read a tell.

That sounds like a flaw and isn't. Every other game in the roster rewards a specific skill, which means the person who's better at that skill wins most of the time — and a rivalry where one person always wins stops being a rivalry.

Bomb Pass is the palate cleanser. It's sixty seconds, it's pure luck, and the loser has no excuse available and no grievance either.

Live only — and it has to be

Unlike most of the roster, Bomb Pass has no asynchronous mode. A game of nerve that resolves over eighteen hours isn't a game of nerve.

It needs both of you watching the same bomb get more dangerous in real time. That's the whole experience, so it's the only mode it ships in.

Three things that actually help

  • There is genuinely no strategy. Anyone who tells you they've got a system for this has been lucky twice.
  • It's the right thing to open a session with — it's fast, it's fair, and it doesn't matter who wins.
  • Play it against someone who is much better than you at everything else. It's the one game where being better doesn't help.

Bomb Pass questions

How likely is the bomb to go off?+

It starts at 8% on the first pass and adds 7 percentage points every pass after, capping at 85%. That means it's a coin flip by around the eighth pass and near-certain by the twelfth.

Can I hold onto the bomb instead of passing?+

No. Passing is the only legal move on your turn, so there's no stalling and no way to run the clock down.

Is the randomness fair?+

The roll is resolved on the server, not on either player's phone, so neither client can influence or predict it.
