What is Duelo?

What it is

Duelo is one app with 18 two-player games in it: word races, four in a row, a hidden-ship hunt, dots and boxes, mancala, a trivia duel, a drawing game, a quiz about each other, party games and a co-op game where you carry a sofa together. Every game is between two people. 9 of them also work when you are not online at the same time.

The point is the rivalry, not any one game. Each pair of friends gets a head-to-head record per game, and it never resets. See all the games →

The name

Duelo is the Spanish and Portuguese word for a duel. In Spanish it also means mourning, which is why a plain search for the word brings up dictionaries and unrelated pages. The app is the duel: two people, one board. To find it, search for Duelo app or Duelo 1v1 games, or go straight to play-duelo.com.

History

Until 2026 the app was WordKO, a live word-duel game. In 2026 it grew into board games, party games, quizzes and co-op, and took the name Duelo. Accounts, friends and records carried over. Some old store links still use earlier names; they all open the same app.

Duelo, in plain facts

• iPhone and Android, and the two play each other: an iPhone player and an Android player share one board.
• 18 games in one app: word games, board games, trivia, a drawing game, party games and a co-op game.
• 9 of them work when the other person is asleep: you play, they answer whenever they next open the app.
• PIVOT! is co-op: one end of the sofa each, both of you on the same side.
• On iPhone, 16 of the games also play inside iMessage.
• No strangers, no bots, no matchmaking queue. Every opponent is a person you invited.
• Six games free, no ads, no subscription. One payment unlocks the rest; it cannot buy a win.
• A permanent head-to-head record per friend, per game. It never resets.
• Made by a one-person studio in London. Last updated October 2026.
