Right is good. Right and fast wins.
How to play Trivia Duel with a friend
- Pick a categoryBefore each question, choose one of three categories. In a live game you take turns to pick.
- Answer in ten secondsA right answer scores 100, plus up to 100 more the faster you are. A wrong one scores nothing.
- Survive the finalQuestion seven is the final. Its category is a surprise, and it counts double.
- Compare scoresMost points after seven questions wins.
The speed bonus, and when to ignore it
A right answer is worth between 100 and 200: the base, plus a bonus that shrinks as the ten seconds run down. A wrong answer is worth nothing, however fast it was.
That makes a sure answer at eight seconds better than a quick guess that misses. The bonus is a reward for knowing, not for tapping. Go fast when you know; take your time when you don't.
The final changes the maths. It counts double, so it is worth up to 400 on its own. A 200-point lead going into question seven is not safe.
Picking a category is picking for both of you
There are ten categories: General, Food & Drink, Movies & TV, Music, Sport, Science & Nature, Geography, History, Animals, and Words & Language. Each question offers three of them.
In a live game you take turns to pick, and you both answer whatever is picked. So the best pick is not simply your strongest subject. It is the one where the gap between you and your rival is widest.
Against someone you know well, that is half the fun. You know they never watched that show. Pick it.
Live, beat my score, one phone or in Messages
Live, you both answer at the same time and a ⚡ shows who was faster.
A move at a time, you play your seven now. Your friend gets the same seven questions later and has to beat your score.
On one phone, two players answer on the same screen, one thumb each. And on an iPhone, Trivia Duel also plays inside Messages.
Three things that actually help
- Don't tap on a guess in the first second. A wrong answer scores nothing; a right one at eight seconds still scores over 100.
- On your pick, choose what they don't know, not only what you do. You both answer the same question.
- Never relax before the final. It counts double, so it can swing up to 400 points.
